On February 17, 2003 Great-West Lifeco Inc. announced it had entered into a definitive agreement with Canada Life Financial Corporation to acquire 100 per cent of the outstanding common shares of Canada Life.

The transaction received shareholder approval at a special meeting of Canada Life Financial Corporation shareholders held on May 5, 2003. The transaction has received regulatory approvals from a number of jurisdictions, including all necessary regulatory approvals from the Government of Canada. The transaction closed July 10, 2003.
